Project Intro
For generations, The Sea Shell Shop has been a fixture in Rehoboth Beach.
Known by locals and visitors alike, the family-owned business has built its reputation on coastal souvenirs, homemade fudge, miniature golf, and a nostalgic shopping experience that has remained part of the town's identity for many years.
While the business itself continued to thrive, its website had been left behind. Originally built in 2011, the site was no longer mobile-friendly, contained broken links and outdated inventory, lacked SSL security, and had become increasingly difficult to manage. Owner Patty Derrick and her son John partnered with Vivid Creative Studio to modernize the website while preserving the familiar look and feel customers had come to recognize.
Objective
The goal was to bring their online presence into the modern era without losing the charm that made it feel familiar and nostalgic. Existing customers already recognized the brand, so maintaining that sense of continuity was just as important as improving the technology behind it.
Beyond the design itself, the project required migrating years of content, cleaning outdated products, improving usability across modern devices, securing the website, and creating a platform the team could confidently manage moving forward.
Process
Every project begins with understanding the people behind the business.
Because the Shop wanted to work with a local team, we met with them in person both at the store and at owner Patty's home to better understand the history of the business, the challenges of the existing website, and her vision for the future.
The technical side of the project proved just as involved as the creative work. The previous website had accumulated years of issues, from broken links and outdated inventory to missing account credentials and legacy systems that had to be untangled before development could begin. We worked closely with Patty throughout the process, solving each obstacle as it arose and ensuring nothing important was lost during the transition.
Visually, we intentionally resisted the temptation to redesign everything from scratch. Instead, we modernized the experience while keeping the overall aesthetic familiar, respecting both the client's wishes and the expectations of longtime customers. The result feels unmistakably like The Sea Shell Shop; just cleaner, faster, responsive across every device, and built on a secure modern platform.
To complete the project, we also photographed fresh imagery of the shop's homemade fudge and miniature golf course, giving the new website authentic photography that better represents the experience visitors can expect in person.

This project became much more than a website redesign.
We became a hands-on technology partner, helping solve challenges wherever they appeared—even outside the scope of the website itself. From recovering old accounts and to setting up new office equipment, our flexibility allowed the Shop to rely on a single local team they could trust.
That willingness to help wherever needed made the entire process smoother and gave The Sea Shell Shop a modern website backed by ongoing local support. We had a good time, made some great local connections, and ate lots of fudge along the way.
